Customers can buy trendy designer apparel and accessories at affordable prices. Most available items are one-of-a-kind with new items being brought in twice weekly, so the selection is different all of the time.
The items come from liquidation merchandising which is the process of buying overstock, closeout, last-season, or even returned merchandise and reselling it for less than retail. Similar stores that operate this way are Marshall’s, T.J.Maxx, and Ross.

The Differences Between Nordstrom And Nordstrom Rack
Before we get the Nordstrom liquidation salvage stores, we must first discuss the differences between Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack.
Nordstrom vs Nordstrom Rack
Nordstrom, a national department store, was established in 1901 in the Pacific Northwest region of the United States. The store initially sold shoes. Nordstrom Rack, part of Nordstrom, Inc., is an off-price department store chain founded in 1973. Most clearance merchandise at Nordstrom Rack is 30-70% off regular retail prices.
Prices
Prices of the items are the biggest difference. Nordstrom is a full-price retailer that sells clothing, shoes, and other items at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price. Nordstrom Rack is a discount retailer that sells overstock, returned, and damaged merchandise from Nordstrom stores to the public at a discount.
Store Sizes
Nordstrom stores are typically large department stores that sell a wide variety of clothing, shoes, and other items. Nordstrom Rack stores are typically smaller than Nordstrom stores and carry a limited selection of merchandise.
Nordstrom offers a wide variety of high-end brands like Burberry, Gucci and Christian Louboutin, while Nordstrom Rack focuses on more affordable brands and usually only has a dedicated section for luxury designer items.
Store Services
There are a few of services and different amenities at Nordstrom department stores that you won’t find at a Nordstrom Rack which include:
- Alterations
- Bra fittings
- Curbside pickup
- Embroidery
- Engraving
- Personal shoppers
- Restaurants
- Rewards program called “The Nordy Club”
- Spas, called “Spa at Nordstrom”
- Wedding attire
Nordstrom Liquidation
Now that you know the difference between Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack, there are still items that get returned at both stores, overstock items and clearance items that never sold. So what happens to those items?
Those items become “Nordstrom Liquidation Salvage” that are sold off to liquidation brokers for resellers (like myself) to buy. These resellers then sell the items online or in brick and mortar stores (such as “Bend the Trend”) where customers can buy Nordstrom items for a small percentage of the original retail price. We even have resellers that buy from us to resell on Poshmark and other places online or local via marketplaces.

How To Tell What Are Nordstrom Rack Salvage Items
Here are a couple of tips on how to spot Nordstrom liquidation items at a liquidation store near you. There are two main ways to tell if the items being sold are Nordstrom Rack salvage items: by their price tags and their brand names.
Nordstrom Clearance Price Tags
If you see any price tags that resemble the examples below, chance are high that they are indeed authentic Nordstrom items. Be sure to double check as sometimes the items are perfectly brand new, but the tags don’t match the actual brand and/or the tag/label shows the wrong size (see examples of both of these below as well).
At our local liquidation boutique, sell clothing and shoes for only $10 no matter what the price tag says. After seeing or knowing the retail prices for the above luxury designer items, you now know why resellers buy from liquidation stores to resell. So is that a re-reseller?
Nordstrom Private-Label Brands
Most likely you will know if the liquidation items are “Nordstrom Made” from Nordstrom or Nordstrom Rack if the items are one of Nordstrom’s signature brands (also known as “private labels” or “owned brands”). Nordstrom brands (and their category of items) include:
- Nordstrom Signature (Made with Luxury)
- Halogen (Made to Mix)
- Nordstrom Men’s Shop (Made with Polish)
- BP (Made for Now)
- Treasure & Bond (Made with Purpose)
- Open Edit (Made for Possibility)
- Caslon (Made with Ease)
- Zella (Made to Move)
- Tucker + Tate (Made to Play)
